GWS coach Leon Cameron has dubbed it a heartwarming tale and it'll play out on Saturday when luckless defender Tim Mohr makes his return from two years in the AFL wilderness.
Mohr has endured two knee reconstructions since breaking down in the Giants' round-18 outing back in 2014.
But the Tasmanian is set to earn an emotional recall against Gold Coast this weekend as cover for the injured Phil Davis as the Giants chase a record-extending fifth straight win and a place in the AFL's top four.
"It's a great opportunity that we bring Timmy Mohr in. He hasn't played for a couple of years, which is a great story," Cameron said.
"Our boys will be really proud of knowing that Tim's gone through a fair bit of hardship to get back to AFL footy.
"He's worked extremely hard over the last 24 months. There would've been massive amount of doubt about: 'Will I ever get back to play AFL footy?'
"There's times where he questions himself: Is he good enough? Has he got the mental capabilities to play again?
"It's just a wonferful story that he gets to play this week."
Mohr has spent almost every minute of that hardship recovering with fellow young gun Jonathon Patton, the Giants' - and AFL's - No.1 draft pick before the club's 2012 introduction who is also trying to return from a double knee reconstruction.
The pair have been challenging each other at the gym and rehab sessions and coach Cameron knows Mohr's resolve will be put to the test against the Suns and star forward Tom Lynch, the competition's second-highest goal scorer behind only Sydney superstar Buddy Franklin.
"He's going to have a huge challenge, whether he plays on their resting ruck or whether he plays on Lynch, who's arguably the best forward in the competition at the moment," Cameron said.
Victory over Gold Coast could propel GWS to as high as second on the ladder after nine rounds.
