Greater Western Sydney have been lacking intent and contested ball strength for the past month of the AFL season, Giants half-back Zac Williams has said.
Williams made the frank admission on Tuesday, three days after the third-placed side lost to the in-form Sydney Swans by 13 points at Spotless Stadium, after back-to-back draws with Hawthorn and Geelong.
"The Swans came out and they're actually playing some really good football at the moment, so obviously it's not great that we got the loss but we can move on to next week against Richmond," he said.
While the Giants did stake a challenge on Saturday night, Williams admitted the Swans won the contested ball "arm wrestle".
The injury-plagued Giants were missing key forward Jeremy Cameron (hamstring) and lost Matt de Boer (concussion) but welcomed the return of Toby Greene (ankle), Steve Johnson (knee), and Williams himself (hamstring).
"Obviously with so many injuries it does take a toll on the whole playing group but like Leon (Cameron)'s always mentioned, if one goes down, another bloke comes in," Williams said.
"I think it's more of an intent thing that we've been missing probably over the last month or so.
"We're just taking it a week at a time."
Williams said the Giants are yet to discuss their round 18 game against Richmond, however, Tigers midfielder and Brownlow Medal contender Dustin Martin will likely come up in discussions.
"He's a great player and Richmond have been playing some really good football at the moment, so I'm sure when we go into meetings and stuff like that, we'll chat about that," Williams said.
