Giants look for first AFL win in Tassie

Greater Western Sydney will look for their first AFL win in Tasmania this weekend after suffering maulings in their two previous visits to the Apple Isle.

They've suffered fearful beatings in their two previous AFL trips to Tasmania, but GWS Giants have the chance to get a win in the only state or territory where they haven't yet tasted a competition victory.

Greater Western Sydney face North Melbourne at Blundstone Arena on Saturday, four years to the day the Kangaroos smashed them by 129 points at the same venue.

Their most recent journey to the Apple Isle the following year resulted in an 83-point flogging by Hawthorn in Launceston.

Seven of the Giants team that played in last week's club record 102-point home win over Gold Coast were involved in both the Tasmanian hidings.

Heavy away losses were par for the course for GWS in those first two years, but they've won in SA, WA, Victoria and Queensland.

"Being a new club, as we get better we slowly tick off these small little milestones, " said Giants defender Adam Kennedy, who played in both of the club's games in Tasmania.

"We haven't won in Tassie, so it would be great to get our first one this weekend.

"But we know what's coming up against us and we've got to be full throttle ready to go."

The Giants are now a competition powerhouse and capable of inflicting drubbings of their own, as they did last weekend.

They didn't lose any game by more than 32 points last year, but got a rude reminder in round one this season of what it felt like to be thumped, as the Crows pumped them by 56 points in Adelaide.

"In that first year we copped our fair share of losses and they weren't just small losses, they were pretty heavy," Kennedy said.

"I look back to them and we sort of look how far we've come, so we definitely don't take anything for granted.

"In round one we had a heavy loss, so we definitely don't want to go back there and that's something that will just keep driving us from those early years.

"We've learnt nice and early in the season that we've got to prepare each week exactly the same and no matter who (we play), we've got to rock up."

Giants key forward Jon Patton, who was a late withdrawal from last week's game with a hip injury, will undergo a fitness test later this week.
