Giants set to regain top AFL talent

GWS could have co-captain Callan Ward and clever forward Toby Greene back for next Saturday's AFL clash away to Geelong.

GWS coach Leon Cameron hopes to have top end talent Callan Ward and Toby Greene back for next Saturday's AFL away clash with Geelong.

Co-captain and midfield dynamo Ward (knee) hasn't played a senior game this season and influential forward Greene (knee) has missed the last two.

"We think Ward and Greene will be ready to roll, but I'm really rapt with some of these young players that are playing their role at the moment," Cameron said after Saturday's 49-point home win over Richmond.

"We've got to be careful in selection because it can bite you when you do jump the gun a little bit.

"But the advantage Callan has probably got is he has played six or seven years without missing.

"He's done the whole pre season up until JLT 1, so he's got a lot of work into him. If the guys in the high performance area give us the nod, then clearly our co-captain will come back in."

Ex Fremantle wingman Tom Sheridan injured a calf early in the game against Richmond, while star key forward Jeremy Cameron kicked a career-best 7.5 despite suffering a corked shoulder.

He has kicked 14 in the first three rounds and his coach and namesake feels he hasn't always got the credit he deserves.

"I think he probably gets harshly dealt by sometimes," Leon Cameron said.

"When he served his suspension last year he was winning our best and fairest, the year before he was doing the same thing (before getting injured),so when he plays, he's clearly a very good player.

"But because of the standards as an 19, 20-year-old when he kicked his 62 (goals), we think he's just going to kick 70, 80, 90 and 100, it just doesn't happen.

"The stakes lift when you become a good player and there's more pressure on you and I thought he's handled it really well."

Cameron was also pleased with the other half of his Jeremy forward duo.

Jeremy Finlayson, who has played primarily as a back, kicked a career-best 5.1 against Richmond, more than doubling his goal tally from his 17 previous AFL appearances.

"He's got some attributes that we really like when he plays ahead of the footy," Leon Cameron said.

"He's started the year in a really good manner."
