Former federal Labor MP Steve Gibbons really doesn't like two-time prime minister Kevin Rudd.

Mr Gibbons, who retired from parliament ahead of the federal election, has given an interview in which he describes his fellow party member as a "piece of filth".

The former member for Bendigo was taking issue with post-election stories saying Mr Rudd had helped save Labor 10-15 seats across the country.

"I say f***ing frogshit, Rudd was responsible for losing 19 seats," he told online publication Crikey.

"That's the reality. Three years of destabilisation - and blatant destabilisation at that."

Mr Gibbons has in the past spared Mr Rudd no quarter.

In February last year, during the height of Mr Rudd's failed challenge against then prime minster Julia Gillard, the MP described him as a "psychopath with a giant ego".

Mr Rudd has been aware of the Gillard-backer's antipathy and has previously shrugged off his remarks.

Mr Gibbons at various times has also had Liberal MPs in his sights.

In November, he was rebuked by Ms Gillard for calling now foreign minister Julie Bishop a "narcissistic bimbo".

The backbencher later apologised.
