Northern Territory Chief Minister Adam Giles says he welcomes the appointment of two co-commissioners to the inquiry into the mistreatment of youth in Territory detention.
Mick Gooda, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Social Justice Commissioner at the Human Rights Commission, will head the royal commission along with former Queensland Supreme Court Justice Margaret White.
"The government is confident that Mr Gooda and Justice White will conduct the inquiry fairly and rigorously. They will have the government's full co-operation," a spokesman for Mr Giles said, as the chief minister was at the races.
Former NT chief justice Brian Ross Martin on Monday quit the royal commission after conflict of interest allegations emerged.
His daughter worked for former attorney-general Delia Lawrie from 2009 until 2011, a period covered by the royal commission.
Media also questioned Justice Martin's possible involvement in the sentencing of young people allegedly abused in detention.
A royal commission was announced last week after footage emerged of boys being stripped naked, tear-gassed and held in solitary confinement at Darwin's Don Dale detention centre.
