The Queen has left her grandson Prince William's wedding reception for a private meeting with Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
After the Westminster Abbey marriage of William and Catherine Middleton Ms Gillard went to Buckingham Palace for a lunchtime reception where she was summoned to a one-on-one meeting with the monarch.
Details of the meeting haven't been released by the palace but Ms Gillard's office has confirmed the pair have discussed the Queen's trip to Australia later in the year.
The prime minister a republican arrived in London on Thursday after a week-long visit to northern Asia where she toured parts of earthquake-devastated Japan and met Chinese President Hu Jintao.
A spokeswoman says Ms Gillard has been warmly received by the Queen and the pair have discussed the shape of the agenda for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which Australia is hosting in six months in Perth.
Ms Gillard has told the Queen the people of Australia are excited by the news that the monarch will be coming to attend the meeting.
It's the first time they've met.
