Prime Minister Julia Gillard has dismissed as "political chatter" speculation that outgoing Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner is the source of leaks against Labor.

The party has been plagued by a series of damaging leaks during the federal election campaign, but their source is still largely unknown.

Ms Gillard's ousted predecessor Kevin Rudd has denied he is responsible, and now attention has turned to Mr Tanner.

As finance minister, he has been privy to many high-level discussions and meetings, and is leaving politics on August 21 - Election Day.

Ms Gillard dismissed speculation about whether Mr Tanner was a leaker.

"Political chatter, others can do it, I'm not interested in that," she told the Nine Network on Monday.

Meanwhile, the prime minister expressed her 100 per cent support for Mr Rudd, and said she wanted him as "a senior member of my team" should Labor be re-elected.
