Ms Gillard met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday ahead of a major summit of regional leaders in Hanoi.
She also met with New Zealand Prime Minister John Key and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
On Saturday she will meet with the leaders of China, India, Laos and the Philippines. She will meet Vietnamese leaders on Sunday.
The East Asia Summit summit in Hanoi brings together the leaders of the 10 ASEAN countries - Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam - plus Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will also attend as guests. Russia and the US will be officially included in the summit from next year.
The leaders are expected to discuss China's increasing regional clout, currency tensions and Burma's November 7 elections, among other issues.
After the summit, Ms Gillard will travel to Kuala Lumpur for talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and then to Jakarta for talks with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Ms Gillard returns to Australia on Thursday.
