The little girl was shot above the right eye at a property on Corella Road, near Manilla, shortly after 7.30pm (AEDT) on Boxing Day, a police spokeswoman told AAP.

Paramedics treated her at the scene and took her to Tamworth Base Hospital.

She was then airlifted to Sydney for emergency surgery but died at 4.10pm (AEDT) on Friday.

Police have seized a bow from the property and say their inquiries are continuing.
