Girl fights for life after Qld house fire

A 12-year-old girl is fighting for her life in hospital, a day after being badly burnt in a house fire near Gympie.

A Queensland community is rallying behind the family of a 12-year-old girl as she fights for her life after being horribly burnt in a house fire near Gympie.

Alexis Dean remains in a critical condition in Brisbane's Lady Cilento Hospital, where she's receiving specialist care for burns to her upper body.

Supporters have raised more than $3000 and have donated items to help Alexis and her family who lost everything when their Monkland home was gutted on Monday morning.

Firefighters risked their lives to save Alexis after she got trapped in a bedroom, while her mother and two children were able to escape the inferno.

Alexis has been described as a fighter and beautiful girl by family and friends who are praying she will recover.

"My little cousin is a fighter and we are all praying as a family she pulls through," one relative wrote on Facebook.

Another wrote: "Praying for a miracle. Keeping fighting my baby niece."

One of Alexis' close friends posted a touching message on Facebook which pleaded for her to keep fighting, according to News Corp.

"I can't describe how much this girl means to me," she wrote.

"I love her with my body heart and soul and I ask that u all pray for her bc (sic) my life would not be the same without this beautiful girl by my side."

Firefighters are yet to determine what caused the blaze, but they have said it started in one of the home's bedrooms.
