A teenage girl had gone to get ice-cream before she was allegedly raped and sexually assaulted by a Brisbane Uber driver.

Court documents obtained by AAP showed the 16-year-old used the ride-sharing service to travel from her friend's home in Manly West to a nearby supermarket just before 9pm on July 7.

She made another booking to return her to her friend's house after she bought the ice-cream.

Police allege a 37-year-old male driver, who cannot be named, collected the girl.

He drove in the direction of her destination before detouring and parking between trees in a "dark, spare allotment".

The man allegedly indecently touched, raped and sexually assaulted the girl as she cried and repeatedly told him no.

She was then driven back to her friend's house.

The incident was reported to police a few days later and the man was charged on Thursday.

The father-of-two was refused bail in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, despite claims by defence solicitor David Svoboda his client would "strenuously" fight the allegations.

The court heard the man had moved from the UK to Australia 12 months ago on a permanent residency visa.

Mr Svoboda said he and his wife may lose the house they planned to move into next week with their two young children if he was remanded and unable to work.

But Magistrate John Costello said despite the fact his family would be at financial risk, he could not release him on bail.

"It seems to me that there is a strong case against the defendant that he raped and sexually abused a 16-year-old female passenger in his taxi," he said.

The man was remanded in custody until August 7.

An Uber spokesman said the company had blocked the man's access to the ride-sharing app as soon as it learned of the allegations.

"The behaviour described by Queensland Police is absolutely deplorable and our thoughts are with the woman and her family," he said.

The man is the second Brisbane-based Uber driver to be charged with rape in less than two weeks.

A 47-year-old driver faced court last week charged with raping a young passenger three times.

In response to the attacks, Queensland police have urged women who have been sexually assaulted while using the ride-sharing service to come forward, fearing there may have been similar incidents.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the allegations were "absolutely shocking" and the government would examine if increased regulation could help to improve safety measures.
