A girl was airlifted to the Royal Children's Hospital in a critical condition after two boats crashed at Lake Eppalock near Bendigo on Friday night.

A girl was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after two boats crashed at a lake in central Victoria.

The girl was on board one of the boats when it hit another at Lake Eppalock, near Bendigo, just before 8pm Friday (AEDT), an Ambulance Victoria spokesman said.

She was airlifted in a critical condition to the Royal Children's Hospital with head and facial injuries.

A boy, 15, and a man in his 40s were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police have seized a boat believed to have been involved in the collision and are investigating.

A 45-year-old Doreen man was arrested and interviewed but released pending further inquiries.

The injured girl remains in a serious condition, a Royal Children's Hospital spokeswoman told AAP.
