Girl stable after Vic tip truck crash

A family is recovering in hospital after a collision involving their four-wheel drive and a tip truck in Melbourne.

A 10-year-old girl is showing signs of recovery after being rushed to hospital in a critical condition following a rear-end collision involving a tip truck in Melbourne.

The girl suffered serious head, chest and pelvic injuries when the truck and her family's Mitsubishi Outlander collided on Monday night at Wyndham Vale, sending all occupants of the SUV to hospital.

Royal Children's Hospital confirmed the girl's condition had been downgraded to serious but stable on Tuesday afternoon.

A five-year-old boy, believed to be her brother, suffered chest and leg injuries and was taken to the same hospital in a stable condition.

He has since been discharged.

Two adults remain in a stable condition at Royal Melbourne Hospital.

The Kurunjang truck driver, 51, stopped at the scene and has been interviewed by investigators.
