Former minister Eric Abtez believes the small business portfolio should be put back into cabinet and given solely to the Liberal Party.
The Tasmanian senator told the federal Young Liberal convention, anyone who knows him knows the proposal is not anti-coalition or the current minister, Nationals MP Michael McCormack.
"It's just that this is a key portfolio for the wellbeing of our country and our political survival in marginal/suburban seats - Liberal heartland," he told the gathering in Adelaide on Saturday.
