Give timing for refugee arrivals: Oxfam

Oxfam Australia wants the federal government to give details of its plans to resettle 12,000 refugees from Middle Eastern camps.

Aid agency Oxfam wants the federal government to establish a clear timeline for resettling the Syrian and Iraqi refugees it promised to bring to Australia a year ago.

Then-prime minister Tony Abbott promised to accept 12,000 refugees who had fled the Syrian civil war and Islamic State extremists and were in camps in the Middle East.

Oxfam Australia chief executive Helen Szoke said it was unclear how many had actually come to Australia but in the same time Canada had managed to resettle more than 25,000 refugees.
