The Glasgow School of Art has spent millions of dollars in recent years on a restoration project, after the same historic building was devastated by fire in 2014 - caused by a foam canister used by one of the students for an art exhibition.
The building was designed in 1909 by renowned Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and is one of the world’s most important examples of Art Nouveau architecture.
Social media images and videos showed large flames engulfing the building, but there is no indication yet as to how severe the damage will be.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said crews are “working hard to extinguish the well-developed fire.”
Police have advised the public to avoid the area, and have closed off roads surrounding the art school.

Authorities have not said what caused the blaze, but many on social media have said they are stunned that devastation has struck the school for the second time.
