The changes to AFL clubs' coaching panels are in full swing, with Hawthorn finalising their appointments.

Hawthorn have lured Darren Glass back into the AFL, adding the West Coast premiership player to their coaching panel.

The Hawks have also confirmed that Scott Burns will come across from Collingwood.

Glass and Burns will join Brett Ratten and Adem Yze as Alastair Clarkson's assistants.

It follows the departure of Cameron Bruce to Carlton, where he will be a senior assistant under Brendon Bolton.

Glass, a four-time All-Australian key defender, was a member of their most recent premiership team in 2006.

He also captained the Eagles from 2007 until his retirement in 2014 and was honoured with captaincy of the 2012 All-Australian team.

After working at Adelaide as a part-time coach, Glass returned to Perth.

Glass has an MBA and has worked as a business consultant.

Burns also captained Collingwood and has extensive experience as an assistant coach at West Coast and the Magpies.

"Scott and Darren ... have exceptional leadership skills," said Hawks football boss Jason Burt.

"We look forward to the new ideas and perspective (Burns) brings to our coaching group.

"Darren has followed a slightly different path since retiring from the game.

"He's got really strong values and communication skills and we think he will really thrive in the environment here at Hawthorn."

They are among the first of many changes to AFL coaching panels.

Gold Coast have started their search for a new senior coach and North Melbourne could soon confirm a new contract for Brad Scott.

The reappointment of Nathan Buckley at Collingwood means Geoff Walsh can proceed with the rest of his findings in a wide-ranging review of their football department.

Bruce's move to Carlton is intriguing, given current Blues assistant John Barker is among the favourites to win the Gold Coast appointment.

But Carlton have brought in Bruce on the basis that he would work alongside Barker as senior assistants to Bolton.
