Glass sculpture wins Indigenous art prize

An unconventional sculpture made of woven glass has taken out the top prize at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards in Darwin.

The winner of this year's National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award says she is passionate about reviving Indigenous craft traditions.

Canberra-based artist Jenni Kemmarre Martinello has been awarded the $40,000 prize for her glass artwork titled 'Golden Brown Reeds Fish Trap'.

She's says she has always loved traditional woven objects, and wanted to present them in a contemporary light.
