Gleeson yet to re-sign with Wildcats

Trevor Gleeson became the first coach to win multiple titles with the Perth Wildcats after guiding the team to grand final NBL success over New Zealand.

Perth Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson says he'll take some time to enjoy the club's record seventh NBL Championship before sitting down with the club to talk about his future.

The Wildcats were crowned this season's champions on Sunday after thrashing the NZ Breakers 75-52 in the grand final decider at Perth Arena.

Gleeson has guided the Wildcats to two titles in this three years at the helm, becoming the first coach to lead Perth to multiple titles.

But he's yet to sign on for next season, with the Wildcats now expected to offer him a multi-year contract extension on the back of the recent success.

"I'll just be sitting back and enjoying the next couple, and then we'll talk about that down the path," Gleeson said when asked about his future.

Perth's hierarchy will also be busy trying to re-sign the bulk of the current roster for next season.

But centre Nate Jawai, import Casey Prather, and veteran Shawn Redhage may not be in Wildcats colours next season.

Jawai is expected to explore his options in Europe, while Prather might test the waters in the NBA.

Redhage, 35, hasn't ruled out retirement.

Wildcats captain Damian Martin hopes the bulk of the squad will commit for next season.

"It's been a strength of the organisation to retain the core group of guys for a long period of time," Martin said.

"This is a very special group and I'd love to see everyone back in a Wildcats uniform next season."

The Breakers are hoping to stay in Championship mode despite losing their coach and chief executive.

Coach Dean Vickerman will explore his options overseas, while Breakers chief executive Richard Clarke has already agreed to join the Brisbane Bullets, who will rejoin the NBL next season.

The Breakers fell short in their bid to win their fifth Championship from the past six seasons.

But Clarke said the franchise had every reason to feel proud about what they've achieved since being founded in 2003.

"We started off playing in front of a couple of hundred people and half the country didn't know what basketball was," Clarke said.

"Now we've established a legacy we can be really proud of."

Star Breakers guard Cedric Jackson endured a forgettable outing in the grand final decider, failing to score a point before fouling out early in the final quarter.

Martin was named grand final MVP for his star role in defence throughout the three-game series.

The Boomers guard has now won three titles with the Wildcats, but said it was hard to compare them to each other.
