Glory keen to put ugly week behind them

Perth Glory's interim coach Kenny Lowe says he's keen to win the job on a full-time basis after taking over from the sacked Alistair Edwards.

The make-up of Perth Glory's starting team will receive more attention than usual on Sunday as the A-League club attempts to end a tumultuous week with a win over Adelaide United.

Alistair Edwards was sensationally sacked as Glory coach on Tuesday after failing to resolve his bitter feud with a host of the club's senior players.

Edwards' perceived nepotism towards his two sons Ryan and Cameron caused friction within the ranks, with skipper Jacob Burns leading a player revolt.

The situation reached a flashpoint last week when Burns confronted Edwards after being left on the bench in the team's 2-0 loss to Melbourne Victory.

Edwards, who was sacked nine months into his three-year deal, is set to take legal action against the club.

Kenny Lowe was named as Glory's interim coach on Friday, and no doubt Burns will be the first person he names in his starting side as he attempts to quash friction amongst the player group.

Both Ryan, who has been a regular starter this season, and Cameron Edwards were named in an extended squad that still needs to be trimmed by two.

Lowe, a former Glory assistant who was also head coach at the WA branch of the National Training Centre, was confident the brothers would be able to thrive under his watch.

"I've had a relationship with the two boys now for four years, since they were 12 and 13 years old," Lowe said. "They are top kids, top people."

Skipper Jacob Burns says he has spoken to the two brothers, and claims all the players remain friends despite the recent turmoil.

Seventh-placed Glory (12 points) are still in the finals hunt, but it's uncertain how the turmoil will affect their form.

Lowe, who is keen to secure the Glory top job beyond this season, said there was no way the players would drop their bundle.

"They're a super group of players who are highly professional," Lowe said.

"So they'll be self motivated. We've just got to make sure we fuel that desire."

Adelaide enter Sunday's match at nib Stadium full of confidence after breaking an eight-match winless run with a 4-0 demolition of Central Coast last week.

The Reds sit six points adrift of the top-six, and will be without midfielder Fabio Ferreira (adductor).

Glory are hoping to be boosted by the return of Brazilian winger Sidnei, but William Gallas (calf) and Shane Smeltz (ankle) will miss another match.
