Glory re-sign Risdon, now for Castro

Perth will aim to continue their hot A-League form against Central Coast at nib Stadium, boosted by Socceroo Josh Risdon signing a new one-year deal.

Socceroos defender Josh Risdon will delay his overseas adventure after signing a new one-season deal with Perth.

And the A-League club hope star import Diego Castro will soon follow suit, while Rhys Williams could also be on the Glory's books next season.

Risdon's stocks have risen dramatically this season after producing a standout campaign.

The 23-year-old, after his Socceroos debut last November, has also been called up for this month's World Cup Qualifiers against Tajikistan and Jordan.

Risdon had the option of heading overseas at the end of this Glory campaign, but he felt his development would be best served by spending one more season in the A-League.

"It's something I've always wanted to achieve - to go overseas and play at the highest level I can," Risdon said.

"If it happens in the future, I'll definitely take the opportunity.

"But I'm really enjoying myself at Glory, and the team's doing well. I'm playing regularly here.

"Being part of the Socceroos for the next year or so is a big goal of mine.

"Hopefully (playing regularly for Perth) will be enough to be involved in the national team."

Castro has been a revelation for the Glory this season, with the Spaniard second favourite to win the Johnny Warren Medal as the A-League's best player.

Glory chief executive Peter Filopoulos says the club has already opened up negotiations with Castro.

Socceroos defender Williams is eyeing off a move to the A-League following his horror injury run in the past few years.

Williams' career has stalled since suffering back-to-back achilles tendon injuries.

The Middlesbrough defender returned to Perth recently for his grandfather's funeral, but Glory coach Kenny Lowe said it was too early to start talking about the possibility of Williams joining the club.

Risdon has made 111 appearances for the Glory since making his debut in 2010, captaining the side nine times this season.

The speedy right back is expected to be given the role full-time next season.

Risdon is set to lead the side out again in Saturday night's clash with last-placed Central Coast at nib Stadium.

The Glory will use the match to pay tribute to Australian under-23 striker Dylan Tombides, who died in 2014 of testicular cancer.

Supporters at Saturday's match can show their support with a round of applause in the 38th minute - with 38 being Tombides' guernsey number at West Ham.
