A 16-year-old boy who was stabbed on a Gold Coast street went from door to door desperately seeking help before he died.
Police say the wounded teen finally got the attention of a resident on Allawah St, Bundall, who called the ambulance after the boy turned up on the doorstep late on Saturday night.
Paramedics arrived at the house shortly afterwards but were unable to save him.
Detective Superintendent David Hutchinson said it appeared the boy had arrived in the area with a number of people in a car.
"At this point in time we believe the incident has actually occurred on the street and that he has then gone to a number of houses seeking assistance," he told reporters on Sunday.
"We don't believe it's a random attack."
Investigators are interviewing a number of people, including the resident who called the ambulance and those who were in the car.
Det Supt Hutchinson said the occupants weren't suspects but appealed to anyone who had seen the white 2004 Holden Commodore sedan with P plates in vicinity of Allawah Street, Bundall Road and the Sorrento shops between 9pm and 11pm Saturday to contact police.
The boy is from the Gold Coast suburb of Arundel.
An ambulance had to be called for his mother when she was notified of the tragedy on Sunday morning, Det Supt Hutchinson said.
Police believe a knife was used to inflict the stab wound although no weapon has been found.
