Gold Coast are expecting a battle when they take on winless North Melbourne in round six of the AFL at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The Kangaroos are 0-5 this season after suffering last-minute losses to Western Bulldogs, Fremantle and Geelong, but Suns coach Rodney Eade is not reading too much into that statistic.

"They've played very well, there's been three games they should've or could've won," Eade said. "I know it's a win-loss industry but I think that's a bit of an outlier."

The Suns recorded their first-ever win in Victoria with Eade as coach - in round four this year - and this should give them a huge confidence boost.

"We're desperate for a win ," Eade said on Thursday.

"We're expecting a tough game and will take some confidence from managing a win last time we were playing away."

The Suns, who will be without injured co-captain Steve May (hamstring) and Rory Thompson (quad) in defence, will be hoping to bounce back for the second time this season after conceding 150 points in a loss.

Eade was impressed with the performance of Adam Saad and Jack Leslie against Adelaide last week but is hoping their defence as a whole improves against the Kangaroos.

"As a collective I think (last week) they could have done better," Eade said.

"At times we got lost, maybe our positioning wasn't where we'd hoped it would be, not that it would have changed the result but I think it would have lessened the margin."
