Gold for Oboya, Kolesnikoff at Youth Games

Australia have won two track and field gold medals on day three of the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Bendere Oboya has edged out fellow Australian Ella Connolly to win gold in the girls' 400m at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas.

The fast-finishing Oboya clocked a winning time of 52.69 seconds, with Connolly claiming silver in 52.72 as both runners set personal bests.

Sixteen-year-old Sydneysider Alexander Kolesnikoff won gold in the boys' discus with a best throw of 19.76m.

Ben Schmidtchen's best effort of 7.64m was good enough for silver in the boys' long jump behind Antigua and Barbuda's Sheldon Noble.

The Australian girls' rugby sevens team won gold, outclassing Canada 31-5 in the final.

In the pool, Sophie Caldwell recorded a second personal best for the day in the 400m freestyle to pocket the bronze medal.
