An Australian company behind a gold mine in Thailand has denied reports it is at the centre of alleged corruption.
Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission has told Thai media that it is investigating an allegation that Kingsgate Consolidated engaged in corrupt conduct to obtain a gold mining concession.
Initial evidence has reportedly been sent by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) to Thai authorities.
But Kingsgate, the operator of the Chatree Gold mine 280 kilometres north of Bangkok, said it is not aware of any basis for such an investigation.
It said an ASIC investigation into payments made by Kingsgate to a consultant for business and commercial advisory services connected to its Thai operations concluded in mid-2014.
"ASIC has taken no action following the completion of its investigation, and the company considers this matter to be closed," Kingsgate said in a statement.
"The company has operated successfully in Thailand for more than 14 years in compliance with applicable Thai and Australian laws, and will continue to do so."
Kingsgate shares were down 2.5 cents, or 3.5 per cent, at 69.5 cents at 1530 AEST.
