The NRL is unlikely to scrap golden point despite Wayne Bennett's protestations over the extra-time result in North Queensland's grand final win over his Brisbane side.
An 82nd minute golden point field goal from Johnathan Thurston delivered North Queensland their first NRL premiership on Sunday at ANZ Stadium in the most dramatic fashion.
The 17-16 result consigned the Broncos to the first loss in their seven grand final appearances.
Bennett said he would have preferred a replay of the match a week later to the extra-time period.
"I've never been a fan of golden point," Bennett said.
"It was changed because we had a drawn game in a State of Origin. It's a lottery. It's unfair on everybody. (It was) most unfair here tonight.
"I'm happy to come back next week and play. I don't see what's wrong with the draw. The game lived for 100 years with draws.
"You're talking about a grand final, everything on the line. It's not the way I want it decided."
The 1977 and 1978 seasons witnessed grand final replays, but the NRL said it was unlikely to revert to that format.
An NRL spokesman told AAP that Bennett was "welcome to raise the matter with the competition committee".
"But at this stage there are no plans to change the current system," the spokesman said.
Bennett is on the competition committee, which is due to meet later in the year.
However Bennett's position on the committee could change when the group meets, with voting to be held on which two coaches sit on the committee. Two coaches are appointed by their clipboard-carrying peers at NRL level.
Bennett has been a consistent critic of golden point since it was introduced into the NRL in 2003.
"I'm not bitter. We had a wonderful grand final. It takes two teams to do that. The glory goes to the winners, I'm happy with that," he said.
"We got beaten by a field goal. Do we feel beaten? No we don't.
"It's not about winning or losing all the time. They've been brave all season.
"The Cowboys weren't better than us. The end result at full-time was 16-all. It was decided in golden point."
Cowboys coach Paul Green wasn't interested in the debate.
"It's not worth talking about, we won the comp," he said.
