The weekly goldfish races at a Washington bar in the United States have been cancelled following complaints from animal rights activists.
Every Tuesday night the Harmon Tap Room in Tacoma features races in which cheap feeder fish from a pet store are "raced" down two two-metre troughs.
Racers guide the fish with squirt bottles. Barman Joel Cummings has told KIRO-FM the fish are cared for when they are not racing but occasionally they die.
After complaints by phone and email, the Harmon Tap Room replaced goldfish racing with beer pong.
