Australia's Su Oh is a rarity - a golfer who hopes wicked winds blow in Sunday's final round of the Australian Open.

Oh tamed tricky winds at Royal Adelaide on Saturday with a masterly five-under, leaving her eight-under for the tournament.

The 20-year-old from Melbourne will start the final round two shots behind the leader, American Lizette Salas, with Australian Sarah Jane Smith also at eight-under.

"I'm kind of hoping it will be windy ... I'm feeling pretty comfortable in the wind," Oh said.

"There are still 18 holes to go ... but it's my national title so I really want to fight for it.

"It's going to be tough but it would mean a lot. You can't really put a word to that."

Fellow Australians Minjee Lee, Rebecca Artis and Hannah Green are all three-under and in contention but they are all chasing Californian-born Salas, the daughter of Mexican immigrants who wasn't keen on revisiting her strong thoughts on US President Donald Trump.

The day after Trump's election win, Salas tweeted: "After last night, this country isn't what I thought it was. I ask that the whole world pray for the citizens who still believe in morals."

Following her third-round in Adelaide, Salas was circumspect.

"I like to stay away from politics," she said.

"I have expressed how I felt ... as far as my opinion about our new president, I don't really have anything to say."
