Good faith negotiations are continuing between the government and the opposition over the reinstatement of offshore processing for asylum seekers, Prime Minister Julia Gillard says.

Talks between Labor and coalition frontbenchers stalled two days before Christmas.

But Ms Gillard says both sides are still committed to holding discussions in the coming weeks.

"Negotiations are continuing and it is not my intention to have a running commentary on these negotiations in the media," Ms Gillard told reporters in Sydney on Sunday.

"We want them to continue in good faith."
