Bernard Tomic has a great chance to progress deep into the Australian Open, but compatriot Samantha Stosur faces a much tougher task after being handed her lowest seeding since 2009.
Stosur is the No.25 seed in the women's competition, meaning she will play one of the top eight in the third round unless there is a massive upset in the early stages of the first grand slam tournament of 2016.
Not since 2009 when she was unseeded has the Queenslander been listed outside the top 24 seeds.
The 31-year-old was elevated two positions from her No.27 ranking due to the absence of French Open runner-up Lucie Safarova, the world No.9, and retired US Open champion Flavia Pennetta, still eighth in the standings.
But Stosur still missed a top-24 seeding by a spot, leaving her very much at the mercy of Friday's Open draw in Melbourne and could well strike top-ranked defending champion Serena Williams as early as round three.
Stosur's best showings in 13 previous campaigns at Melbourne Park saw her reach the fourth round in 2006 and 2010.
She takes shaky form into the 2016 event after being belted by Puerto Rican Monica Puig at the Sydney International.
The news was much better for Tomic, whose No.16 seeding means he cannot meet the likes of Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer until at least the fourth round.
Tomic, 23, guaranteed a top 16 seeding with his run to the semi-finals at the Brisbane International last week.
"There are dangerous floaters out there as well in the first and second round that you can get, so that can be difficult as well," Tomic said on Wednesday night after trouncing countryman Jordan Thompson in Sydney.
"Hopefully I get the right draw to save energy to play well in the first few rounds and confidence getting to the third or fourth round.
"What I've noticed in the past year or so, you need to get to those third, fourth rounds and be ready and physically fresh.
"To beat the top players you have to be physically ready."
Tomic advanced to the round of 16 at Melbourne Park last year before bowing out to Czech Tomas Berdych.
Defending champions Djokovic and Serena Williams are the respective top seeds in 2016.
The draw takes place on Friday morning.
