Goodes tipped to farewell game next week

Adam Goodes is likely to bid his AFL farewell at Sydney's best and fairest dinner on October 9.

Two-time Brownlow Medallist Adam Goodes is expected to farewell the game at Sydney's best and fairest dinner on October 9.

Goodes is not expected to participate in Saturday's AFL grand final parade for retired players.

The three-time Swans club champion announced his retirement after their semi-final home loss to North Melbourne which meant fans were unable to pay tribute to Goodes along with the the Swans' other retiring player at the game, defender Rhyce Shaw.

All retiring players who have tallied 200 or more senior games receive an invitation to the annual grand final parade in Melbourne.

Goodes has until the eve of the game on Friday to inform the AFL whether he will be attend, but the 35-year-old said a couple of days after his retirement announcement he hadn't given any thought to participating in the parade.

He is not anticipated to be part of the parade, though the AFL on Thursday would neither confirm or deny his attendance.

Goodes was controversially booed by crowds in Melbourne for most of his final season this year.

Despite that treatment some prominent AFL figures including Collingwood president Eddie McGuire have urged Goodes to be part of the parade.
