The University of Queensland has joined Google and not-for-profit group Underwater Earth to photograph sites up to 100 metres underwater.
It is the first time a project has attempted to go so deep underwater at the Great Barrier Reef using newly developed camera technology.

The project aims to enable the public and scientific community to gain a deeper understanding of the health of the coral reefs and the impacts of climate change, according to the project's chief scientist, Professor Ove Hoegh Guldberg.
“For the first time in history, we have the technology to broadcast the findings and expedition through Google.
Millions of people will be able to experience the life, the science and the magic that exists under the surface of our oceans," he said.
