Gosford church extends lunch invitation to Pauline Hanson after far-right protesters crash sermon

The Gosford Anglican Church is hoping for open dialogue with One Nation senator Pauline Hanson after members of a far-right group stormed the congregation at the weekend.

Father Rod Bower from Gosford Anglican Church has responded to an unwelcome visit to his parish by far-right demonstrators by calling for dialogue with One Nation leader Pauline Hanson.

The Gosford church is renowned for its progressive social commentary, which is often broadcasted on the sign out the front, and on Tuesday Father Bower posted his response to the visit from the 'Party for Freedom' members.

The right-wing group members disrupted the congregation on Sunday morning, impersonating Muslim community members at prayer and criticising the church's inclusive values.

The group supports One Nation Senator Pauline Hanson and uses her image on their Facebook page.

Hanson, who was elected on a party platform that included calling for a royal commission into Islam, called the demonstration "counterproductive".

A One Nation party statement on Monday said: "A church is a sacred place to many people so perhaps the Party for Freedom could have had a different approach to making their statement, but this does go to show that tensions are high in the community when it comes to the topic of Islam.

"We are aware that the Gosford church has taken part in political conversations through portraying their support for refugees and Muslims over the past few years on their church sign and we believe that this has drawn attention to the church and why they were targeted."

The lunch invitations are piling up for the One Nation senator, who was also extended an offer by Labor senator Sam Dastyari on election night to take her out for a Halal Snack Pack.
