Gotch to make Shield debut for Victoria

Victoria will look to untried wicket keeper Seb Gotch to cover the loss of Sam Harper for their Sheffield Shield clash against Western Australia.

With injured wicket keeper Sam Harper still recovering in hospital, Seb Gotch will make his Sheffield Shield debut for top-of-the-table Victoria.

The Bushrangers take on Western Australia at the WACA from Saturday, with Gotch's inclusion the only change to the squad that defeated South Australia.

Harper was hospitalised during that match after he suffered a concussion when he was accidentally struck by SA batsman Jake Lehmann.

The 20-year-old's condition continues to be monitored but he is improving and is expected to be released later this week.

"While our thoughts and best wishes are with Sam on making a quick recovery, Seb Gotch will be given his first opportunity at the top level," Victorian chairman of selectors Andrew Lynch said.

With three rounds left, Victoria are the runaway leaders of the competition, while the fifth-placed Warriors are part of a closely-bunched chasing pack.

The Bushrangers will play WA again in Alice Springs in a fortnight before finishing their season with a trip to face Queensland.

"We're coming to the business end of the tournament now and we've put ourselves in a very strong position on top of the table," Lynch said.

"The next two games against Western Australia give us a chance to really break away and secure another finals berth, which is a testament to the hard work and depth of the Victorian squad."

VICTORIA: Cameron White (capt), Scott Boland, Dan Christian, Travis Dean, Aaron Finch, Seb Gotch, Marcus Harris, Jon Holland, James Pattinson, Rob Quiney, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Tremain.
