Government appoints Freedom Commissioner

A man who describes himself as a classical liberal public policy analyst says there's nothing hypocritical about his appointment to the Australian Human Rights Commission.

For the past seven years, Tim Wilson has worked at the free market analysis organisation, the Institute of Public Affairs, which has been calling for the Commission to be abolished.

He's now resigned from the IPA and the Liberal party to take up the newly created role of Freedom Commissioner for the next five years.

Mr Wilson has told Greg Dyett he'll be restoring balance to the Commission.
