The Defence industry fears the prospects of submarines being built in Australia will slip away unless there's an announcement before the election.

Australian Made Defence spokesman Chris Burns says it's no secret the federal government will struggle to win seats in South Australia if the submarines aren't built in Adelaide shipyards.

"It's a no brainer that if they were committed to building Australia's future submarines there, they would have said so by now," he said.
