The federal government is not selling its secure communications network linking agencies and departments.

The potential sale or lease of the Intra Government Communications Network doesn't represent value for money for the government at this time, Finance Minister Mathias Cormann said in a statement on Friday.

A scoping study shows the network is a strategic asset and is highly valued by agencies for its low cost and high volume bandwidth, he says.
