Governor-General Quentin Bryce has been meeting black diggers during a tour of remote communities in far north Queensland.
It's a dream for people in the defence force to meet their commander-in-chief, but today for those in B-Company 51st Battalion it became a reality.
Their base is just outside Weipa at Evan's Landing, but they have one of the biggest areas to patrol of anywhere in the country.
One of female troop members said she wanted to get involved in the Defence force so she could inspire other Indigenous people to do the same.
"Young Indigenous women should be out there doing what's best. Don't live on the dole. It's not good for you. Get a job. Show your kids that you can do better."
The Governor-General continued her tour of the local schools on Thursday Island, receiving a warm welcome from the locals.
The community has not seen Quentin Bryce since she was the Governor of Queensland.
"I think it actually brushes away the cobwebs of us knowing we're remote. So we're out of sight, out of mind. And we don't (often) have a VIP of her status coming to visit us," said Torres Shire Council mayor Napau Pedro Stephen.
And to round up her tour of the island as commander in chief, Quentin Bryce also visited the defence service men and women on Thursday Island.
