The federal government has honoured its deal with crossbench senators to appoint a wind farm commissioner to deal with complaints about turbines.

Andrew Dyer, former chairman of the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman Council, will take up the new role and provide an annual report to parliament on complaints by community members.

The government has also appointed an independent scientific committee to conduct research into potential medical impacts of turbines which will be headed by acoustics researcher and academic Jon Davy.
