The Turnbull government is considering a plan to have every Australian primary school student's height and weight recorded in a bid to tackle the country's obesity crisis, according to a News Corp Australia report.
Parents would be able to opt out of the proposal put forward by the Global Obesity Centre (GLOBE) with Australia now the sixth most overweight or obese nation behind only Mexico, the US, New Zealand, Finland and Chile.
"The importance of exercise and good eating for kids cannot be underestimated in giving them a lifelong platform to good health," Mr Hunt told News Corp.
"Being healthy as a child sets you up for life and we encourage children and parents to work together on adopting healthy lifestyles."
GLOBE is also calling for a sugar tax as well as advertising restrictions.
