The "complete puzzle" of regional education, from school to university and vocational training, will come under the federal government's microscope as it seeks to address the disparity between city and bush.

An independent review into regional, rural and remote education, led by Flinders University's John Halsey, will look at ways of getting more students to be successful at school and go on to further study and employment.

Public submissions will be invited from April and Professor Halsey is expected to report by the end of 2017.
