Another senior Turnbull government minister has insisted the coalition has no plans to change racial discrimination laws despite agitation among some of its backbenchers and crossbench senators.
The Senate is likely to consider moves from the crossbench to either water down or abolish section 18c of the Racial Discrimination Act, which makes it illegal to offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate someone because of their race.
"The debate may be continuing with some people but the government has no intention to make any amendments to 18c. That reform was taken off the table in August of 2014," Defence Minister Marise Payne told ABC radio on Wednesday.
