Govt, Labor still neck and neck: poll

The latest ReachTEL poll says the government and opposition remain neck and neck with 50 per cent each.

The coalition and Labor are neck and neck on 50 per cent each, while Malcolm Turnbull leads Bill Shorten by more than 10 per cent as the better prime minister, a new poll says.

The latest Seven Network ReachTEL poll of 2175 residents across Australia on June 9 says that hasn't changed since their last poll a week ago.

It's also consistent with the latest Newspoll earlier this week.

The ReachTEL poll says neither leader is especially well regarded, with 28.3 per cent rating Mr Turnbull's performance as good or very good and 34.2 per cent declaring it satisfactory.

Mr Shorten's performance was ranked good or very good by 27.5 per cent, while 33.9 per cent thought it satisfactory.

On the issue of who's best to manage border protection, the coalition is well in front of Labor, 57.8 per cent to 42.2 per cent.

Asked who do you trust to manage the economy, the numbers get closer with 54.5 per cent choosing the coalition and 45.5 per cent Labor.

But Labor is far better regarded on health - 60.6 per cent trust it most to manage health service, against 39.4 per cent for the government.

Labor is also in front on education - 56.9 per cent trust it more to manage education, while 43.1 per cent chose the government.

The government's plan for tax cuts for companies is a key election issue but just 30.5 per cent give it the big tick while 69.5 per cent would prefer increased spending on health and education.
