Govt lacks response to ocean warming:ALP

Labor has accused the coalition government for one of the largest conservation reversals in history when it comes to protecting the oceans.

Federal Labor has chosen World Oceans Day to renew its attack on the Morrison government over its environmental policies.

The opposition's assistant spokesman for the environment Josh Wilson said instead of addressing the warming of the oceans, the coalition government has spent the last six years unpicking Labor's national marine park network.

He described it as "one of the largest conservation reversals in history".

"The Morrison Government has been slow to act on plastic waste, has stripped funding from crucial science organisations like the CSIRO, and has categorically failed to reduce carbon emissions," Mr Wilson said in a statement on Saturday.

"A healthy environment and climate depends upon a healthy marine life, which is under threat. The degradation of the sea puts at risk the lives and wellbeing of people across the planet."
