Govt looking into start-up share schemes

The government is looking into concerns raised by new companies over current rules governing employee share schemes.

The federal government will consult with start-up companies that have expressed concerns over laws relating to employee share schemes.

The government will consult directly with interested parties for two weeks starting January 28.

Consultations will be in Melbourne and Sydney, with the option for teleconferences with those unable to attend.

"These consultations will provide stakeholders with an opportunity to discuss their concerns in relation to the existing employee share scheme arrangements for start-ups," Treasury said in a statement.

Expressions of interest into the consultations should be made by January 24, while the government is also seeking submissions by February 7.
