A Brisbane school will hold a special celebratory graduation ceremony for an Iranian asylum seeker who was granted a bridging visa and released from detention.
Yeronga State High School student Mojgan Shamsalipoor, 22, has spent her first night free after she was placed into detention following a failed visa application in August 2015.
At the time, she was just months away from graduating.
Ms Shamsalipoor plans to live in Brisbane, where she was released on Wednesday, with her husband Milad Jafari.
Yeronga State High School Deputy Principal Jessica Walker said the school would celebrate her freedom when students returned from holidays.
"The thing that we always said is she would graduate and we wouldn't stop our campaign until she walked across the stage at our school and received her graduation certificate from the principal," she told AAP.
Ms Walker, who helped organise rallies and marches to maintain the pressure on the federal government to look into the case, thanked supporters for their contribution and said the couple was grateful.
"They have really been strengthened, when things got really bad and they were feeling down, by having that support and knowing that so many people were behind them," she said.
