Grandparents won't be paid for childcare

Scott Morrison says he is not considering a proposal by Senator Glenn Lazarus that would pay grandparents for childcare.

Treasurer Scott Morrison is not considering paying grandparents to be child carers.

Independent senator Glenn Lazarus wants grandparents financially rewarded for looking after the children of working parents as part of a Senate crossbench wish-list in exchange for supporting the government's $3.5 billion families package.

"For those who are doing the normal thing like my parents do and a lot of peoples' parents do then, no, the government isn't considering that," Mr Morrison told Sydney Radio 2GB.
