The defender, who played his way into the Socceroos' starting side for last month's AFC Asian Cup, has amassed 179 games across his 10 years at the club and is already the club's longest-serving player.
But the charismatic 27-year-old said on Wednesday he wanted at least two more years on top of his latest contract to push current captain Alex Brosque's record of 253 games and counting.
"If I could stay here another three years and stay injury free and get a few more games under my belt it would be a real privilege and a real honour to hold the longest serving player and most appearances titles," he said.
"Hopefully I can jag another couple of years at the end of these three and stay for 15.
"If I continue to do well then perhaps I could get past the legends of Brosque and Tezza (Terry McFlynn).
"To be held in that stead would be freakish."
Coach Steve Corica is happy to retain the services of a player who impressed when finally given the chance on the international stage.
"He has shown real loyalty to the club and has been a great servant and a top professional," Corica said.
"He deserved his chance to play for the Socceroos and did a wonderful job, so we are pleased to have him stay with us.
"He's been great for the club, very energetic and a fantastic guy."
Sydney sit third, one point behind Melbourne Victory, ahead of their clash with the struggling Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium on Friday.
