North Queensland hooker Jake Granville has been cleared of a dangerous throw at the NRL judiciary, freeing him to take on Newcastle this weekend.

Granville was found not guilty on Tuesday night after being charged for a tackle on St George Illawarra's Kalifa Faifai Loa in his side's 14-10 loss last Saturday.

The premiership-winning No.9 could've escaped suspension with an early guilty plea but risked a one-match ban by choosing to fight the charge.

The Knights, however, will be without forward Korbin Sims for Saturday's clash against the Cowboys in Townsville after he entered an early guilty plea to a grade-one careless high tackle charge.

Sims was hit with the charge for his second-half tackle on Parramatta forward Tepai Moeroa in Newcastle's Monday night loss.

The suspension is another blow to the under-fire Knights, who will head into the match against the defending premiers on the back of six consecutive losses.
